Stipulated under Occupational Safety and Health (Use and Standards of Exposure of Chemicals Hazardous to Health) Regulations 2000.

The CHRA is an assessment to determine the level of risk and the adequacy of existing control measures during use, handling, storage or transportation of chemicals hazardous to health at workplace.

The purposes of CHRA are to help employer to evaluate and to take appropriate decision on:

  • the adequacy of control measures.
  • the induction and training of employees.
  • the necessity of exposure monitoring programme.
  • the necessity of medical surveillance programme.

The objectives of the CHRA are:
  • To identify the hazards posed by each chemical use within the workplace.
  • To evaluate the degree of exposure of employees to the chemicals hazardous to health, either through inhalation, dermal or ingestion.
  • To evaluate the adequacy of existing control measures.
  • To conclude the risk of chemicals used.
  • To recommend further appropriate control measures and prioritise actions to be taken to prevent or reduce risk.
